George and Charlotte Hay, fading Broadway stars, are on tour in the City of Buffalo in 1953. Their bare- bones repertory troupe is performing Cyrano de Bergerac and Private Lives. On the brink of a split up caused by George's infidelity, they receive word that may give them one last chance for stardom: the famed Hollywood director, Frank Capra, is coming to Buffalo to see their matinee. and may cast them in his remake of The Scarlet Pimpernel.
They are visited by their daughter. Roz, with her new fiance, Howard. Their attorney, Richard, who loves Charlotte, also drops in.
Troupe members include Paul, once engaged to Roz; Eileen, the young ingenue, who has a surprise for George and Charlotte's near-deaf mother, Ethel, whose job with the troupe is costumer. She also hates every bone in George's body.
What can go wrong does go wrong, fueled by the infusion of alcohol, mistaken identity and which play is to be performed first.

Please arrive promptly at the start of the audition time. You do not need to attend both nights.  Auditionees will be reading from the script.
For musicals, prepare a song you feel confident in singing. Try to select a song that is the same style as the show for which you are auditioning. (Melodic songs like show tunes, church music, folk songs, etc. are better than jazzy pop songs.) Bring sheet music if possible; no recorded accompaniment.
There may be dancing or improvisation as part of the audition. Please dress in clothes you can move in. Please, no flip-flops. Please look carefully at the performance dates. Being in a show at Theatre Statesville requires a great time commitment. If you will only take a larger or smaller role because of your own time concerns, or if you are auditioning for just the experience, you are WELCOME!--but please let the director know your intentions.
